Summer Program

Courses - Summer 2010

1st Five-Week Session: May 31 - July 2, 2010

The following three-credit university courses will be offered during the five-week session:

  • MAT 117 - College Algebra 
  • MAT 170 - Pre-Calculus

2nd Five-Week Session: July 5 - August 6, 2010

The following three-credit university courses will be offered during the five-week session:

  • AML 100 - Introduction to Applied Mathematics for the Life and Social Sciences
  • MAT 170 - Pre-Calculus

Eight-Week Session: May 31 to July 23, 2010

The following four-credit university courses will be offered during the eight week session:

  • MAT 270 - Calculus with Analytic Geometry
  • MAT 271 - Calculus with Analytic Geometry II

* Due to 4th of July holiday and campus closures, 8-week session students will need to vacate campus housing on Friday, July 2, 2010. MSHP will resume on Monday, July 5, 2010.

Eligibility

The Math-Science Honors Program is intended for mature students with the academic potential to pursue careers that require a mathematics or science-based curriculum. Applicants will be selected according to the following criteria:

  1. Full-time high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors enrolled in college-track courses.
  2. Sophomores may apply, provided they have completed a minimum of three years of high school mathematics by the end of the 2009-2010 academic year.
  3. Seniors may apply, provided they plan to attend ASU in the fall of 2010.
  4. Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.25.
  5. Minimum grade of "B" in all high school mathematics courses taken to date (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus).

A selection committee reviews all complete applications. Participants are selected on the basis of academic achievement, letter of recommendation, and personal/career statement.

Special consideration is given to students who are first generation college-bound. Statewide representation is also a consideration in student selection.

  • Application Form
  • Personal/Career Statement
  • Recommendation form from a mathematics teacher, science teacher, or school counselor
  • Official high school transcript (include fall 2009 semester and list of spring 2010 coursework)
  • Consent for access to education records form
