MSHP alumni Mercedes Hendrix named 2009 Fiesta Bowl Queen
MSHP alumni Mercedes Hendrix, an Arizona State University senior who grew up in Phoenix, was crowned the 39th Annual Fiesta Bowl Queen presented by Dillard’s at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort tonight. As Queen, Hendrix will serve as an official spokeswoman and ambassador for The Fiesta Bowl organization during its annual Festival of College Football, which encompasses more than 40 events surrounding the 39th Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and 21st Annual Insight Bowl.
Of the four finalists, all currently enrolled at Arizona universities, Hendrix was selected to wear the esteemed Fiesta Bowl crown based on several judging qualifications and criteria, including her community service, scholastic achievement, poise, personality and an essay submission. The selection process included several panel interviews, television interviews on ABC15’s “Sonoran Living” and public online voting.
The Queen and Court will represent the Fiesta Bowl throughout the season at various community philanthropic events and at many Fiesta Bowl related activities including the Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade presented by Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Fiesta Bowl Block Party, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship presented by University of Phoenix and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
